Historically, the area was run down and considered one of the least desirable areas to live in London due to the lack of aesthetic appeal and high crime rates. These days, the area is considered safer and has gentrified somewhat with the influx of upmarket restaurants, bars and hotels. It even boasts a two Michelin star restaurant, Da Terra located off Cambridge Heath Road. In recent years, young professionals and trendy types have been attracted to the area due to its relatively lower cost of housing, close proximity to central London and popular hangouts nearby including Shoreditch, Hoxton and Columbia Flower Market.
