Stability One of my biggest concerns before purchasing the Westside Scout Reverse Hyper was whether its smaller frame would compromise stability. The Scout Hyper has a 1” by 3” frame and weighs only 86 pounds when unloaded, making it lighter than other models like the Rogue Z-Hyper. While it’s less stable than the Rogue due to its lighter build, I haven’t found stability to be an issue during workouts. The machine does have some side-to-side wobbling, but lateral stability isn’t a major factor when performing reverse hypers. When you swing, the machine slightly leans back, causing the front feet to unload a bit, but this doesn’t impact its functionality or safety. Ease of Moving The biggest reason I opted for the Westside Scout Reverse Hyper is its portability. The machine is designed to be easily folded, and at just 86 pounds, it’s simple to move around. This makes it ideal for a home gym or clinic where space is limited and equipment needs to be repositioned frequently. The foldable design allows for quick storage, making it an appealing option for anyone who needs a versatile yet portable piece of equipment. Footprint When fully set up, the Westside Scout Reverse Hyper has a footprint of 60” x 27.5”, which is relatively compact for a reverse hyper. However, the real space-saving benefit comes from its foldable design. When folded, the machine reduces to only 8” deep, making it easy to store when not in use. This makes it a great choice for home gym owners or physical therapy clinics where maximizing space is a priority. Height Another concern I had was the height of the machine, particularly for taller athletes. Since I work with a wide range of clients, I needed a machine that could accommodate various body sizes. I was pleasantly surprised to find that even athletes up to 6’5” could use the Scout Hyper without any issues. This makes it versatile enough for different users, from shorter to taller athletes. Loading Capacity The biggest drawback of the Westside Scout Reverse Hyper is its limited loading capacity. The sleeve collars are only about 5 inches wide, which can restrict the amount of weight you can load, depending on the type of plates you have. I use thicker, non-competition bumper plates in my clinic, which means I can only load a 45 lb and 25 lb plate on each side before running out of room. This sets my maximum capacity at 140 pounds, which may not be sufficient for stronger athletes. If you have thinner, calibrated plates, you may be able to increase the load, but it’s important to measure your plates before purchasing. Price One of the standout features of the Westside Scout Reverse Hyper is its affordability. At $395 plus shipping, it’s significantly cheaper than other options on the market, such as the Rogue Z-Hyper ($915) and the Titan Fitness Reverse Hyper ($750). This makes it an attractive choice for budget-conscious buyers who still want a reliable piece of equipment. Conclusion The Westside Scout Reverse Hyper offers excellent value for its price. While it has some limitations in terms of stability and loading capacity, it’s still a solid piece of equipment for home gyms or clinics looking for an affordable reverse hyper machine. If budget and space aren’t an issue and you need higher loading capacity, the Rogue Z-Hyper or Titan RH might be better options.
