Rajasthan's Jaipur and Amer - Forts, Stepwells & Street Food | India Completion: 3.6% 🗺️

The hotel was a haveli. Trip already off to a good start. First stop, Panna Meena Ka Kund. A stepwell just outside Amer that most people drive straight past on their way to the fort. Their loss. The geometry of it is oddly satisfying and there's almost nobody there. Then Shri Jagat Shiromani Temple, a 17th century Vaishnava temple with stone carvings that deserve more attention than they get. Quiet, detailed, easy to spend time in. Amer Fort after that. It has a reputation for a reason. Sitting on a hill above Maota Lake, well preserved, properly grand. Nothing much else to say about it that hasn't already been said. Jal Mahal on the way back into the city. A palace in the middle of a lake that you cannot enter. You just stop, look at it, and move on. Still somehow a highlight. Blue pottery workshop next, then block printing. Both things I assumed I'd find mildly tedious. Both were genuinely interesting. Jaipur kept catching me off guard like that. Lunch was lal maas. Slow cooked Rajasthani mutton curry. Finished with lassi.
