The People Who Survived Everything Except the Country They Remembered - White Zimbabweans
When Rhodesia became Zimbabwe in 1980, thousands of white families left. Others remained, raising children, building new lives, and continuing to call Africa home inside a country that no longer recognized them in the same way. In this documentary, we explore the experience of white Zimbabweans who stayed through independence, school integration, political change, land reform, economic collapse, and hyperinflation. Through older residents, post-independence generations, and those divided between staying and leaving, the film asks what belonging means when the country of your memory no longer exists—but the country beneath your feet is still home.
