DVD "Modos do Fazer" - Ilha do Ferro/AL

[Project developed by ArteSol in 1998, between 2002 and 2003, and between 2005 and 2006] On the São Francisco River, 18 km from the town of Pão de Açúcar, in Alagoas, lies the community of Ilha do Ferro, with its beautiful landscape and welcoming people. Handicrafts are one of its main economic activities, especially the Boa Noite embroidery, a unique craft in Brazil, executed by the local women. Undervalued and almost forgotten, this embroidery has been revitalized, improved, and updated in terms of size and function, incorporating new influences from modern life. Today, the Art-ilha Cooperative brings together these women, holders of the art of embroidery, their greatest tradition. Amidst embroidery hoops, scissors, threads, and needles, sophisticated compositions emerge on the fabrics.
