Understanding Mirai (2018) | Are You Stressed?

So, are you stressed? In 2018 Mamoru Hosoda released what is his most current movie Mirai. Mirai is a film about a four year child named Kun who finds it difficult to welcome his newborn baby sister Mirai into the family. He cannot accept the idea that his parents and grandparents are more focused on Mirai rather than himself. And he comprehends that as his parents not loving him and instead only loving his sister. This causes Kun to go on tantrums in order to get his parents attention but once that fails he starts to act disrespectful to them by not listening. This moment in his life causes him much stress, he cannot understand the changes around him and why his parents are so focused on Mirai. But what happens is when he has a tantrum he gets transported to different era’s and meets different people. And the people he meets are actually all related to him from meeting an older version of Mirai, to meeting his great-grandpa, and to being introduced to a younger version of his mother. All these interactions connect with the arguments he has with his parents. And become a way for him to understand and learn why he was in the wrong. From refusing to clean the mess he makes when asked by his mother to then being transported and meeting his younger mother who gets told off for making her own mess. These interactions with past family members is what allows Kun to understand the importance of his family.
