This is the second installment of a series launched about a month and a half ago: "TERRAFORTE. Voices of those who resist." This time, we've focused on a remote discussion, based on interviews with two farmers, peasants, and ash growers who cultivate ash trees to extract their white manna, between the Madonie areas of Pollina and Castelbuono. These are Emilio Appiano and Giulio Gelardi, two representatives of very different generations, with at times starkly contrasting perspectives. Taken together, however, the opinions of these two extraordinary individuals, imbued with a profound passion for their sense of identity as ash growers, demonstrate that their lifestyle choices deserve special attention, not only from those who study the work of ash manna producers in various fields, from agronomists to anthropologists, but also, and above all, from those who identify with this lifestyle, so as to envision a direct contribution to ensuring that ash tree cultivation for manna extraction is an activity that is not lost in its practical dimension.
