You will find this archaeological site if you walk a little to the northwest of the Shah Sultan Balkhi (RA) shrine inside Mahasthangarh. Basically, it is the ruins of a Buddhist temple. However, the interesting thing is that the archaeological site is named "Khodar Pathar Bhita" based on a long rock located here. I will come to that later. Khodar Pathar Bhita was first excavated in 1907. When Shri Gyanendranath Gupta was the Magistrate of Bogra, an engineer there did excavation work here. As a result, the ruins of an east-facing building measuring 7.31 x 4.56 meters at a depth of 1.52 meters were uncovered. The temple was a Buddhist temple built in the 8th century (Pala period). The floor of the building was laid with stone slabs and the walls up to a height of 91.4 cm from the foundation were also made of stone. Brick and mud masonry can be seen in the remaining intact part of the wall. The ancient temple has taken its place in the womb of time, the stone of God is being worshipped like a carved sapphire. Hindus and the surrounding Muslim community offer milk, oil and siddur to the stone at various times. Many people pour milk and oil on the stone as an offering after the first milking of their cows. Many people pray here for relief from diseases. Hindu devotees often call the stone the vehicle of Brahma. It is not known why this is said. My opinion on this matter is very limited. Many Buddhist temples in Pundra later became Hindu temples and especially Shiva temples. This is possible in the case of this temple. The practice of pouring milk on the Shivalinga of the forgotten era of Shiva temples has survived unnoticed to this day. There is no Shivalinga, the stone at the threshold of the temple remains as a memory. The deity used to take milk offerings there, the devotees have forgotten those things - they only remember to give milk. Another reason for my opinion is that near this archaeological site, it is known that Shivalinga was found in the shrine of Shah Sultan Balkhi (R.A) at Gauripatta and Mankali's tank. Apart from this, Shivalinga has been found in other places in Pundra. Therefore, Shiva temples in Pundra are not rare. It is well known in history that there was a predominance of Buddhists in ancient Pundra. And the first Pir to arrive in Bengal was in this Pundranagar – Shah Sultan Balkhi (R). Researcher Abdus Samad has stated this in his book “Muslim Tribes of Bengal”. With the advent of Islam, most of the Buddhists of Pundra converted to Islam and the rest mixed with Hindus and moved elsewhere, especially in the Rada region, where the Pundra people still live. Despite the change in religion, Buddhist influence has remained unknowingly among many, whose expression is the offering of milk at the threshold of Buddhist temples. Blood speaks. Many of the residents of Pundra have unknowingly retained extinct customs, although they are very few in number. However, an ancient banyan tree stands on top of the stupa as a witness to time. How many times have come and gone, the banyan tree is a silent testimony to them. Sometimes, Baul monks sit together under the tree, play the ektar and sing.
