India Launches First Export Container In Bid To Reduce Dependence On China
India has unveiled its first globally deployable export-import shipping container, marking a key step toward reducing its long-standing dependence on China, which currently dominates up to 97% of global container production. Backed by a ₹10,000 crore government scheme, the initiative aims to build a domestic manufacturing ecosystem through incentives for factories, research, testing, and skill development. Global shipping giant AP Moller-Maersk has partnered with DCM Shriram Group to produce the first batch of containers and has already placed an order for 1,000 more units to scale up production.
