In this video, we'll talk about negotiations, or more specifically, the Harvard approach to negotiation and the Camp Model. There are three approaches to negotiation: soft, hard, principled. The main tenets of the Harvard theory are: the human factor, the ability to focus on interests rather than the positions of the parties, options, outcome criteria. Essentially, a lot comes down to the fact that your negotiating partner is not an enemy to be crushed, but a partner with whom you will likely interact for the long term. Therefore, the outcome of negotiations should not only be the achievement of goals, but also the maintenance of good relations—ultimately, this is simply beneficial. The effectiveness of any negotiation method must be judged by three criteria: the method must lead to a reasonable agreement, if possible; the method must be effective; the method must improve, or at least not damage, the relationship between the parties.
