Zaragoza: não é só turismo, é vida urbana ☕2 Cafés na Europa!
On April 23rd, Zaragoza experiences a very special combination: Día de Aragón, the celebration of Saint George, and Día del Libro (Book Day). In this video from 2 Cafés en Europa, we walk along Paseo de la Independencia, one of the city's most important avenues, to observe how literature, popular festivities, and the use of public space help reveal something essential about urban quality of life. The scene is impressive because it's not just a book fair. In 2026, Día del Libro in Zaragoza brought together 115 exhibitors and 350 authors, occupying Paseo de la Independencia, Plaza de Aragón, Plaza de Santa Engracia, and Plaza de Salamero. The Government of Aragón highlighted that the avenue transforms, for one day, into a large open-air bookstore. But the central point here goes beyond the event. What interests us is observing how a city uses its holidays, its streets, its wide sidewalks, its public transport, and its cultural tradition to create conviviality. Quality of life is not just purchasing power, cost of living, or consumption. It is also what the city gives back: access, encounters, culture, circulation, and belonging. Zaragoza has already appeared several times on the Andiamo channel, where we showed the city through the lens of walking, architecture, history, and direct experience. Here, at 2 Cafés in Europe, we revisit this same city through another path: that of analysis. What can a literary festival in the streets say about a city? What differentiates a beautiful city from a truly vibrant city? And why do certain places manage to resonate in a way that others, even very touristy ones, don't always manage to? In this video, we talk about Zaragoza, Aragon, Book Day, Saint George, Paseo de la Independencia, Spanish literature, Ibero-American tradition, public space, quality of life, tourism, urban daily life, and the relationship between city and culture. Zaragoza in context Zaragoza is the capital of Aragon and one of the largest cities in Spain. It is located in the northeast of the country, on the banks of the Ebro River, in a strategic position between Madrid and Barcelona. Among its main points of interest are the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, the Aljafería, the historic center, and El Tubo, but the city also reveals itself to be far beyond the most obvious tourist routes, especially in urban areas such as the Paseo de la Independencia. Zaragoza is connected to the Spanish high-speed rail network, with trains to Madrid and Barcelona taking approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on the service. Zaragoza Airport is approximately 12 km from the city center, a 15-20 minute drive away. Politically, Zaragoza is governed by Natalia Chueca of the People's Party, in the 2023-2027 legislature, and Aragón is presided over by Jorge Azcón, also of the People's Party. The city and the autonomous community are experiencing a moment of institutional strength for the right wing, but continue to be marked by important debates on culture, mobility, public services, the environment, and the use of urban space.
