Very appreciated by strong heat because a good part in undergrowth and always near the river. ------------ #Valserine #pertesdevalserine #hiking ----------- Description of the hike Just a few kilometers north of Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, cross the village of Lancrans and park in the parking lot opposite the cemetery (school right next door). (D/A) With your back to the cemetery gate, take the gravel path that descends to the right, marked "dead end". Follow the Yellow and Red markings. (1) At the crossroads at the foot of an antenna, follow the Voie du Tram on the left for about 150m. (2) Leave the Voie du Tram and follow the path to the right towards Perte de la Valserine. Pass between some houses. After a short but steep descent, arrive at the Losses site. Then join the Pont des Oulles. (3) Cross the river then go up it to the right for about 300m. Note the calm of the water upstream which contrasts with its fury when it enters Losses. The humid atmosphere of the place has draped the trees with ghostly mosses. (4) Retrace your steps to the Pont des Oulles and cross the Valserine again. (3) On leaving the bridge, turn right along the river towards the Métral dam. Observe the different waterfalls on the right and left banks that flow into the river. Reach the dam (through the barred windows, look at the remains of old pumps). (5) Take a path on the right and follow the river surrounded by gorges cut in the rock. Cross the Valserine footbridge and reach the piles of the viaduct which links Bellegarde to Lancrans. (6) Pass under the viaduct and continue along the path along the river. Go to the Dumont hydroelectric plant which supplied Bellegarde. (7) The return is by the same route. (3) At the Pont des Oulles, go up to the right towards Lancrans. (2) Follow the Voie du Tram on the left for about 150m. (1) Turn right and, via a rather steep climb, reach the parking lot of the Lancrans cemetery (D/A). ------------- 00:00 Quick presentation of the report: What to do at the Valserine river 00:52 Hike to the losses and Marmites de Valserine 01:17 Discovery of the Pertes de Valserine, the Giant Potholes, Napoleon's head 04:17 Métral dam and its waterfall 05:09 Rougeland Waterfall 05:26 The Convert mill and its waterfall 05:45 Continuation of the discovery of the Gorges de Valserine to Bellegarde
