The infamous 37 year old 80s documentary made by Aviva Slesin/Aviva Films and was distributed by Direct Cinema Ltd in the 1980’s From 1919 to 1929 in New York City's Algonquin Hotel, a group of poets, novelists, playwrites, critics, humorists and editors met each day to exchange opinions, gossip and the most cutting wit of the day Performers: Heywood Hale Broun. Credits: Editor, Donna Marino ; music consultant, Joseph Lauro. Awards: 1987 Academy Award Win for Best Documentary Feature. Crazy Trivia: The film took ten years to make, with most of the interviews (as well as Heywood Hale Broun's narration) conducted around 1980; most of the interview subjects died before the film's release.
