Chapters: 00:00 Introduction – Before we explain how to turn off high blood pressure, I need to give you some background and explain the basics of how your kidney works. 00:58 Your kidneys secrete a hormone called renin that leads to high blood pressure. Most blood pressure medications target either renin production or its effects throughout the body. 01:37 The kidney is able to sense the amount of potassium in your diet and turn off renin production in response to increases in potassium intake. As potassium increases, renin decreases – and the changes can happen within just a few days. 03:10 Research shows that not only does renin decrease over just one week with potassium supplementation, but so does blood pressure. 03:38 Most people only get 2,300mg potassium daily, which is less than half the 5,000 mg recommended by the American College of Cardiology. PotassiMax supplements can help bridge that gap. 04:11 The second way that potassium lowers blood pressure is by turning off a protein called the sodium-chloride co-transporter (NCC). Turning off the NCC flushes sodium from the body, lowering blood pressure. 05:18 Studies suggest that replacing potassium can support healthy blood pressure, and leads to improvements in blood pressure that are similar to those seen with many blood pressure medications. 06:25 In summary, potassium can significantly impact the two most important pathways that lead to high blood pressure. Getting up to 5,000mg daily is what experts recommend to support healthy blood pressure levels. Try to get there with your favorite combination of diet and supplements. Good luck!
