National Geographic: Save the Panda (1983)

All the world loves the panda... but only a lucky few have ever seen one. Fewer still have been close enough to observe these rare creatures in the wild. In prehistoric times giant pandas were plentiful over much of eastern China and in parts of Burma. In time, their numbers have dwindled due to human encroachment and climatic changes. So little is known about the giant panda that baffling questions are yet to be resolved. How much bamboo does one animal eat? How far must it travel for food? How much space does it require? But the most nagging question of all - can it survive? The giant pandas is one of the most endangered species on earth. Join scientists in the mountain ranges of central China as they track these rare creatures through nearly impenetrable bamboo in an effort to learn more about the panda and ultimately increase its chance of survival.
