Homeless people and drug addicts mingle with businesspeople and people from all cultures. In winter it's drafty, in summer it's sweltering. Hardly any greenery, everything is paved over. Buses and trams dominate the scene around the "Langer Ludwig" (Long Ludwig). It doesn't exactly sound like a welcoming place. And yet, there are people who love this square – because it's full of life and stories. For over 40 years, Jutta Herzing has sold flowers at Luisenplatz. She witnesses a lot, including the negative changes. Nevertheless, she doesn't want to leave. Hit songs that topped the charts originated in this square. Outreach workers distribute breakfast here to the homeless and needy. Including Donald, for whom homelessness is a way of life. With his late-night convenience store, Dimitri Droukas proves that you have to stay adaptable to survive in the restaurant business. To make fair trade socially acceptable, a banker gave up his job. Now he supplies fair trade shops throughout Europe and wants to prove with his business at Luisenplatz that fair trade works.
