It also comes with a mopping pad, which is nice, but you will have to manually top up the water and wash the pad after it is done. If you want that automated, you should look at the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X20 instead. You will also have to empty the S40's bin manually, though it is big enough that you really only need to empty it once a week unless you have a lot of dirt at home. Since the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 has hair anti-tangle technology, I checked the bottom of the robot after two weeks to see if it works well. Sadly, I found a bunch of curled hair and fur in the roller at the bottom, which means this anti-tangle feature is not working that well. That said, despite the bunch of hair found at the bottom roller, the performance was not affected, as the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 did a pretty decent job of cleaning the house. I found plenty of debris in the dirt bin, and the floor was relatively clean once it was done with its shift. To verify how clean it was, I used the Dyson PencilVac to check, since its Fluffycones head comes with lasers that highlight dirt on the floor. The result? A pretty clean job that passes my test. The navigation also seems to be pretty good, and I almost never come back home to find the vacuum stuck. It is using lasers to navigate and manages to avoid obstacles such as chair legs and objects on the floor. Note that it does not have a camera to detect animal waste or cables, and I did find my USB cable chewed up and broken after it was eaten by the S40. Other things I like include the fact that it was able to climb out from my common bathroom, which sits 2cm lower than my usual floor. The 5,200mAh battery was also able to last the whole cleaning session of my home without an issue. If you are using the mopping function, take note that the Xiaomi S40 does not come with carpet detection, so it will wet your rugs and carpets. You will need to remove all your rugs first. The mopping tank can hold 270ml of water, which is plenty. After a cleaning session at level one, I still had more than 70% water left. Lastly, the dock is small and is only for charging. There is also a cheaper S40C version which has half the suction power. If you are okay with emptying the bin and drying the pads manually, it is a perfect starter vacuum.
