In early November, I drove from the Hibarakaido Highway across the Okutama Loop Road, along the Daibosatsu Line, to Nomekoi-yu in Mt. Tanba. I got a stamp on the Otama Hot Springs Stamp Rally! The water had a faint sulfurous aroma and was incredibly delicious, making it perhaps my favorite of the hot springs in the Otama Hot Springs Stamp Rally. While I was there, I also bought some sweetfish rice and hoto noodles as souvenirs. And, as a must-visit on my turnip walk in Mt. Tanba, I visited Kinoshita Bakery. In fact, this turnip walk was also a pilgrimage to the sites featured in the manga "Zatsu Tabi." At Kinoshita Bakery, I was shown an autographed card by the original author, Kenta Ishizaka, and a "Zatsu Tabi sticker." From there, I headed toward Okutama Station and visited Yamashiroya, a famous wasabi pickle shop. I bought some wasabi pickles and wasabi pickled in soy sauce. The wasabi pickles here are absolutely delicious. Afterwards, I passed through Hatonosu Station, also a holy place for "Zatsu Tabi," and had lunch at KIKORI CAFE TOKYO. It was a truly relaxing experience. I've recently become completely hooked on the Okutama area. It's close and fun, and there are still so many places and shops I want to visit, so I plan to continue visiting. By the way, the Otama Hot Spring Tour consists of six hot springs: Kosuge no Yu, Nomekoi Yu (Mount Tanba), Kazuma no Yu, Moegi no Yu (Okutama), Seoto no Yu (Akigawa Valley), and Tsurutsuru Onsen (Hinode Town). If you visit all of them in a year, you can get a free visit to one of the hot springs, or you can enter a lottery to win a meal voucher (worth 2,000 yen).
