Il Sarcofago degli Sposi torna a splendere: viaggio nel mondo del restauro a Villa Giulia

Over a century after its first restoration and more than a half a century since its last maintenance, the Sarcophagus of the Spouses, an absolute masterpiece of Etruscan art housed in the Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia, is once again the focus of a season of study that extends beyond its restoration. The project also includes the creation of a conservation and maintenance plan for the work, as well as a program of enhancement, thanks to an agreement between the Museum and the Central Institute for Restoration. The project was also made possible by the support of a private patron, Banca Popolare del Cassinate, which intervened through the Art Bonus initiative: an example of how the public and private sectors can come together to restore a piece of Italy's identity. The Central Institute for Restoration accompanied the restorers throughout all the delicate phases of the work, along with Miriam Lamonaca, Head of Conservation at the Museum.
