Railfanning Santa Clarita - 1/18/19
In culmination of my preceding railfanning videos at other stations on this day, I eagerly headed over to the Santa Clarita Metrolink Station to what would be considered as the pinnacle of my trip out along Metrolink’s Antelope Valley Line. Specifically, the Santa Clarita Station was of great anticipation mainly because it serves as one of the key stations along the AV Line in addition to remaining as the City of Santa Clarita’s main Metrolink station among the three stations within the city’s limits; of which are the Newhall, Santa Clarita, and Via Princessa stations. The station is situated just around the corner from the Newhall station, adjacent to the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, where the station itself is actually slightly perched on the hillside coinciding with the railroad elevation. The architecture and layout of this station is also worth noting as it features a waterfall feature leading up to the station platform as well as a distinctive clock tower and passenger waiting area. Additionally the station also provides passengers with ample amenities and a significantly sized parking lot supporting the considerable ridership. In the end though, the particularly interesting thing to note is due in part to the station being situated against a hillside as well as the station layout being a substantial distance from major roadways, the station itself is a rather quiet place throughout the day; thus making it one of the more serene stations to visit and enjoy a pleasant day of train activity ! Train 1 : Metrolink #209 with MP36PH-3C #888 & CabCar #693. Not long after arriving at the station from railfanning at Newhall just prior, Metrolink #209 arrives into Santa Clarita for its scheduled stop before continuing on to its final destination at Lancaster. Train 2 : Metrolink #216 with CabCar #672 & F59PHI #874. Cool engineer on #216. Train 3 : Metrolink #211 with F125 #916 & CabCar #673. This train will terminate and layover at Via Princessa prior to returning to Los Angeles as Metrolink #218. Neat seeing the F125s running up close and in person ! Great engineer on #916 with some friendly waves as well ! Train 4 : Union Pacific ZLCLT-18 with SD70AH #8926, C45AH #8217, C45ACCTE #7791, & SD70AH #8974(DPU). This train was definitely an unexpected but pleasant surprise coming around the hill prior to Metrolink #218's arrival. Friendly crew on this train with some extra horn action ! Train 5 : Metrolink #218 with CabCar #673 & F125 #916. Same great engineer from before on Metrolink #211, now running Metrolink #218 back to Los Angeles ! Thanks for Watching !
