These eight promises permeate the entirety of Isaiah Chapter 40. God, who, instead of urging the weary and fallen to hold on longer, commands us to comfort first. Throughout the ages, whenever people fell, they returned to this chapter to rise again, and Handel’s oratorio Messiah also opens with the very command in Chapter 40: "Comfort yourselves."
