In need of something taller to allow the largest container ships to pass through, the Gerald Desmond Bridge was built to be 205 feet above the water compared to its predecessor's 155 feet. With its two 515-foot tall towers, the Gerald Desmond is also the second-tallest cable-stayed bridge in the U.S.
