The Trishul Vampire This is the story of a belief or superstition that took Bala Singh's life. The Trishul Vampire reportedly entered Bala Singh's mouth. Bala Singh could feel the vampire's movements in his stomach. Jim Corbett called a foreign doctor to examine Bala Singh, but even he was unable to cure him. Jim Corbett then called a renowned Indian doctor, but upon hearing about the vampire, he hurriedly withdrew from Bala Singh. Jim Corbett's sisters also made several attempts, but Bala Singh's delusions remained undisturbed. Finally, Jim Corbett paid for Bala Singh's travel and sent him home. Upon arriving, Bala Singh declared that the Trishul Vampire wanted to be freed. After saying this, he quietly lay down on the ground and died. Isn't this anecdote strange? Jim Corbett wrote about this story in his book Man-Eating in Kumaon. James A. Jim Corbett (July 25, 1875 – April 19, 1955) was an Indian writer and philosopher of Irish origin. He fought for human rights and initiated the movement for protected forests. He settled in Kaladhungi, near Nainital. This site still offers visitors insights into the life of a man who was not only a hunter but also a conservationist, leatherworker, wildlife photographer, and carpenter. He killed several man-eating tigers in the Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, including the man-eating leopard of Rudraprayag. Corbett also rescued people from a man-eating tigress that had killed 436 people in Champawat. However, after a change of heart and seeing the declining tiger population, he turned solely to photography. Jim received his early education at the Opening School in Nainital and later enrolled at St. Joseph's College. However, due to financial difficulties, he left his studies at the age of 18 and went to Mokama Ghat (Bihar) to work for the railways there. Jim Corbett remained a bachelor throughout his life. Like him, his sister also did not marry. The two siblings always lived together, sharing each other's sorrows. Whenever a man-eating lion appeared in Kumaon and Garhwal, Jim Corbett was called upon. He would go there, protect everyone, and return only after killing the man-eating lion. Jim Corbett was a skilled hunter. He was not only adept at hunting, but also a highly influential writer. Among the accomplished writers of hunting stories, Jim Corbett's name is world-leading. His book "My India" is very popular. His love for India was so profound that he was always dedicated to singing its praises. He loved Kumaon and Garhwal very much. Having a park named after such a Kumaon-Garhwal sympathizer on the land of Garhwal-Kumaon is tantamount to offering flowers of respect to him. Therefore, this park named after Jim Corbett has made our nation proud. It is a true tribute from Kumaon-Garhwal and India to Jim Corbett. This writer has brought glory to India.
