How much space do I need on my model railway track between bends.

Here is how I check that the space is correct for the safe running of my rolling stock on the bends. This I think applies more if your railway is not set piece with flexitrack and points. The easiest way to get this right is to follow a Hornby or Peco railway mat. You can take the measurements off this and stick to it.
