Searching for the Hidden Viaduct: Hawthorn Dene in Thick Fog

Decided to head down to Hawthorn Dene for a bit of a mooch, but the fog was absolutely mental. The paths were a total washout—proper deep mud all the way through the dene—but I eventually found a decent spot right by the stream to get the hammock up. There's nothing like the sound of the water while you're just chilling out. Ended up getting the stove on and cooking a bit of breakfast before heading off again. I made my way down to Hawthorn beach and it looked eerie as owt in the mist. Managed to find the caves, that massive viaduct, and even tracked down the old WWII bunker. If you're from the North East or just like seeing people get covered in mud for a bit of peace and quiet, give it a watch. Cheers for tagging along. 0:00 - Arriving at Hawthorn Dene 7:00 - The mud is a nightmare 17:00 - Hammock up 19:30 - Breakfast by the stream 16:30 - Continue Exploring 34:340 - Caves and the viaduct 42:10 - Exploring the old WW2 bunker #HawthornDene #CountyDurham #Mooch #NorthEast #Hammock #WildCooking #HikingUK #sunderland
