How to Select a Sprayer-Too Big Can be Dangerous!!!

Today we continue our series about buying sprayers and the topic is matching the size of the sprayer, in other words,how many gallons it hold, with the vehicle that will be carrying it. There are a lot of choices out there, you can get a hand sprayer, one that goes on your four-wheeler, one that attaches to the tractor three point, a pull-behind, or one that goes in the tailgate of your pickup truck. While the tendency is to get the biggest one you can so you don't have to run back and forth to the field, that can have some real dangerous consequences. For example, a three point 200 gallon sprayer can weigh up to 350 pounds. Fill it full of water, at 8 lbs a gallon and you're bumping up against 2000 pounds of weight. That might be fine on a small tractor on flat ground, but get on hills and you have a recipe for disaster. Having said that, if you get too small a sprayer you're spending all of your time running back and forth to the water source and waiting patently for the hose to fill the tank. It's not the way most of us want to spend our weekend. So, today we try to give you some ideas about what type of sprayer to select, and how big a tank you need to balance safety and productivity.
