Walking to Castillo Santa Cecilia | Guanajuato’s Castle Hotel | Mexico | May 2026

A walk from Centro Guanajuato to the castle-like Hotel Castillo Santa Cecilia.    • Celebrando el Día de Nuestra Señora de Gua...   In this Guanajuato walk, we make our way from the historic center toward the Hotel Castillo Santa Cecilia, following Calle Terremoto uphill before continuing down toward Calle Alhóndiga. The hotel is one of Guanajuato’s most unusual landmarks. Its castle-like towers and stone walls give it a medieval appearance, but the deeper history of the site comes from the city’s mining era. The land once belonged to the Hacienda de Beneficio de San Francisco Javier, where metals from nearby mines were processed. The hotel itself was built in the 1950s, opening in 1952. The walk includes views over Guanajuato, narrow streets, the exterior of the castle, some interior spaces, and the chapel area with a shrine to Santa Cecilia.
