Vellaricombai tribal village, westernghats, nilgiris #westernghats #dangerous #tribes #tribal #tribalvillage #nilgiris #forest #tribalchief #triballife #tribals இந்த பதிவில் மேற்கு தொடர்ச்சி மலை நீலகிரி மாவட்டம் கோத்தகிரி அருகே அடர்ந்த காட்டு பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள வெள்ளரிகோம்பை என்னும் குறும்பா பழங்குடி மக்கள் வாழும் கிராமத்தை பற்றி பார்க்கலாம்.25 வீடுகள் இருந்த நிலையில் அடிப்படை வசதி மற்றும் வனவிலங்குகள் ஆபத்தால் தற்போது 10 குடும்பம் மட்டுமே வாழுகின்றனர். அடர்ந்த வனபகுதி வழியே 2 மணி நேரம் நடந்து தான் இந்த கிராமத்திற்கு செல்ல வேண்டும். நீலகிரியில் உள்ள பழமையான குரும்பா கிராமங்களில் வெள்ளரி கோம்பை ஒன்று. இந்த கிராமம் நீலகிரி உயிர்க்கோள காப்பகத்தின் கிழக்கு சரிவுகளில், கோயம்புத்தூர் மலைகளுக்கு வடக்கே, மேட்டுப்பாளையம் நகருக்கு மேற்கே அமைந்துள்ளது. கோத்தகிரி-மேட்டுப்பாளையம் சாலையில் இருந்து 1.30 மணி நேரம் நடந்து சுண்டப்பட்டியை (மற்றொரு குரும்பா கிராமம்) கடந்து இந்த கிராமத்தை அடைய வேண்டும். இந்த கிராமத்தில் சுமார் 20 குடும்பங்கள் உள்ளன, அவர்கள் சிறிய அளவில் விவசாயத்தில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளனர், அவர்கள் பலா மரங்கள், பாக்கு மரங்கள், காபி, தென்னை மரங்கள், மிளகு கொடிகள் போன்றவற்றை வளர்க்கின்றனர். நிலத்தின் பெரும்பகுதி ஏழு ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக சாகுபடி செய்யப்படாமல் கிடக்கிறது. யானைகள் மற்றும் இந்திய கௌரர்களால் வழக்கமான பயிர்ச்செய்கை. நிலத்தின் பெரும்பகுதி தற்போது பாழடைந்த காடாக காட்சியளிக்கிறது. பழுப்பு மற்றும் கருப்பு வண்ண வரம்பில் மண் பயிரிடப்படுகிறது. இக்கிராமம் செங்குத்தான சரிவுகளில் உள்ளதால், கிணறுகள் இல்லாததால், மலைப்பகுதி மேம்பாட்டு திட்டத்தின் மூலம் வழங்கப்படும் குழாய் இணைப்பு மூலம் மலை உச்சியில் இருந்து குடிநீர் பெறுகின்றனர். கிராமத்தின் தென்கிழக்கு மலைகளில் மழை பெய்து கொண்டிருப்பதையும், வளிமண்டலத்தில் ஏற்பட்ட மாற்றத்தை உணர முடிந்தது ஆனால் இந்த சரிவுகளில் ஒரு துளி கூட விழவில்லை. 2011 ஆம் ஆண்டு மே மாதம் அதே நாளில், 02.00 மணி நேரத்தில், ஒரு பெரிய மேகம் போல, தண்ணீரைத் தாங்க முடியாமல், மழை தொடங்கி காலை 06.30 வரை நீடித்தது. மேல் பகுதியில் நில பயன்பாட்டு மாற்றத்தின் தாக்கங்கள் கிராமத்திற்குள்ளும், சரிவுகளின் அருகிலும் காணப்படுகின்றன. இந்த கிராமத்திலிருந்து தென்கிழக்கே இரண்டு கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் பழங்கால ஓவியங்கள் கொண்ட பாறை உள்ளது, கிராம மக்கள் இதை எழுதுபாறை (கல்வெட்டு கொண்ட பாறை) என்று அழைக்கின்றனர். In this post, we will see about the village of Kurumba tribal village , Vellarikombai, located in the dense forest near Kothagiri in the Nilgiris district of the Western Ghats.While there were 25 houses, now only 10 families live there due to lack of basic facilities and wildlife.You have to walk for 2 hours through dense forest to reach this village. Vellari Combai Vellari Combai is one of the oldest Kurumba villages in the Nilgiris. This village lays on the eastern slopes of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, north of Coimbatore hills, west of Mettupalayam town. From Kotagiri- Mettupalayam road one need to walk 1.30 hours and had to cross Chundapatty (another kurumba village) to reach this village. There are around 20 families in this village, they are engaged in small scale agriculture, they grow jack trees, arecanut trees, coffee, coconut trees, pepper vines etc. Major portion of the landholding has been left uncultivated for more than seven years because of regular cropraiding by elephants and Indian gaur. Major portion of the landholding looks like a degraded forest now. Soil is cultivable with a color range of brown and black. As the village is on the steep slopes there are no wells so they get drinking water from the hill top through a pipe connection provided by the Hill Area Development Program. We could see that it was raining on the south east hills of the village and feel the change in the atmosphere but not even a drop fell onto these slopes. On the same day of May 2011, by 02.00 hours, as though a huge cloud which could not hold any more water, rain started and continued till 06.30 am. Impacts of land use change in the upper region can be seen within the village and near by slopes also. Two kilometers south-east of this village there is a rock with ancient paintings, villagers call this as ezhuthupara (a rock with inscription).
