URDINARRAIN | Pueblo que es una joya en Entre Ríos
Urdinarrain, located in the southeast of the province of Entre Ríos, along Provincial Route 20, is just 60 km from Gualeguaychú, 240 km from Paraná (the capital of Entre Ríos), 280 km from Santa Fe, and 260 km from the City of Buenos Aires. It was recently declared one of the best tourist towns in the world in a competition organized by the United Nations Tourism Division. Urdinarrain has 9,000 inhabitants and is situated in the department of Gualeguaychú, surrounded by rolling hills and verdant landscapes. It was founded in 1890 with the arrival of the first train and thanks to the cultural contributions of German, Italian, Russian, Polish, Jewish, and Spanish immigrants. It boasts museums that house artifacts reflecting its identity, self-guided historical tours of religious sites, monuments, and rural areas, white-sand beaches and pristine nature, agricultural, livestock, industrial, and wine production, regional products (dairy goods, sweets, pickled goods), and handicrafts (traditional leatherwork, weaving, and woodworking). It was founded alongside the railway tracks in the last decade of the 19th century, thanks to the cultural contributions of men and women who arrived from distant lands. Today, it is a thriving city with a high quality of life and all the amenities of modern living, yet it retains the distinctive features of its origins and the peaceful rhythm of small towns. A wonderful place to explore and enjoy a relaxing family outing. A self-guided historical tour is available, encompassing the oldest buildings in Urdinarrain: the Etcheluz School, Club Progreso, the former Casa Morena, the former Cadirola Pharmacy, the former Goldaracena Brothers House, the "9 de Julio" Cinema-Theater, the former Kreymbolg Clinic, the "No Tengo" Bar, the former Justice of the Peace Court, the General Manuel Belgrano Hospital, the Railway Station, and its museums. The Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish is also a highlight. Among the tourist attractions is the Regional Historical Museum, located in the old railway station, one of Urdinarrain's most valuable heritage buildings. It houses a wide variety of artifacts and stories from the city's daily life since its origins, as well as curious treasures. The museum is located within the La Estación Cultural Complex, declared an Architectural Historical Heritage Site of the Province of Entre Ríos in 2003. The English-style building dates back to 1890. There is also the Horse Museum, which exhibits various tools and carriages. Another museum is the Regional Agricultural Museum, located outdoors, where you can see agricultural machinery that demonstrates the farming techniques of our ancestors. It was inaugurated on September 8, 1990. It is a place of remembrance for the people of Urdinarrain, bringing together agricultural machinery. Among the most outstanding items is a CASE threshing machine and steam engine, dating from the late 19th century. There is also the Rural Museum of Carriages, carts, and other items used in rural life. It was inaugurated on May 25, 2018. There is also an outdoor exercise area, a road circuit that recreates different public road situations on a smaller scale, and the San Martín Park, a wooded area with children's play equipment for families to enjoy. The town is home to the Urdinarrain Sports Club, which plays in the Gualeguaychú Departmental Football League. It offers a variety of sports activities: paddle tennis courts, Tennis, soccer, basketball, and pelota/paddleball. And summer is in full swing at the swimming pools for adults and children. There's also the Glider Club: The incredible adventure of unpowered flight. Throughout the year, Urdinarrain organizes various popular celebrations such as the Provincial Horse Festival, the Immigrant Festival, and the Carnival Parades. We're going to delve into the history of Urdinarrain, which began with the arrival of the first train on September 23, 1890. The original settlements were called Villa Mitre and Villa Florida, on either side of the tracks, later merging into Villa Echagüe in 1898. Finally, from 1908 onward, it was named after the railway station: Urdinarrain. This refers to Manuel Antonio Urdinarrain, in honor of the military officer who fought alongside Urquiza at the Battle of Caseros. More about this general can be found in a book by Professor Liliana Broggi. He described Urdinarrain as “a friend and loyal general of Urquiza. Alongside him, he fought for federalist ideals and supported his Pronouncement. He participated in the Battle of Caseros (February 3, 1852), leading the first division of the Entre Ríos cavalry, which numbered 1,300 men. In 1860, the Constitution of Entre Ríos was enacted. Deputy Urdinarrain was the president of the Constitutional Convention that met in Concepción del Uruguay. He was a man who stood out among the generals of that era for his uncommon erudition.”
