[Sincere Celebration with the People for the 77th Armed Forces Day] ✔ My heart swells with emotion as I face the majesty of our military at Gyeryongdae, home to the headquarters of the three branches of the armed forces that protect the sky, land, and sea. ▪️ Applause of encouragement for the hard work of our soldiers who do their utmost to protect the people. ▪️ Gratitude to all those who have sacrificed and dedicated themselves for the nation and the people. ▪️ Gratitude also to the soldiers of the U.S. Forces Korea and member nations of the UN Command who have been safeguarding peace on the Korean Peninsula. ✔ The Korean Independence Army and the Korean Liberation Army, who fought for the independence of the motherland, are the roots and foundation of the ROK Armed Forces. ▪️ Leading the way in reclaiming a ravaged nation, they were the main actors in achieving liberation alongside the Allied forces. ▪️ We must not forget that the spirit of national salvation is the noble mission that the ROK Armed Forces must uphold. ▪️ I hope our soldiers remain faithful to their fundamental duty of protecting the nation and the people with lofty pride. [Enduring the regression of democracy and great suffering of the people when the military forgot its mission and degenerated into a means for private gain] ✔ Last year On December 3, some military commanders forgot their fundamental duties and aimed their guns at the people. ▪️Thanks to the courage shown by the majority of soldiers as citizens in uniform, a greater tragedy and misfortune were prevented. ▪️The consequences were truly immense... The damage the people had to bear was great. ▪️The military, which is supposed to protect the people, must absolutely never aim its guns at the people. ▪️Public trust must be restored as soon as possible...
