Test No. 198 England v Australia, The Oval 1930 - Bradman Begins!

It was the deciding Test of the 1930 Ashes. Although England had won the first Test, Australia had a prodigious young talent by the name of Don Bradman, whose exploits that summer defined a new era. Meanwhile, England's greatest Golden Age batsman, Jack Hobbs was retiring, although his opening partner, Herbert Sutcliffe remained in excellent form. Others to feature in this match included Bill Ponsford, Bill Woodfull, Stan McCabe, Archie Jackson, Clarrie Grimmett and Percy Hornibrook for Australia and Wally Hammond and Maurice Tate for England. Also for England, their fast bowler, Harold Larwood produced a spell that sowed the seeds for the leg theory tactics that were at the heart of the controversial Bodyline series of 1932-33.
