Professor Dr. Tariq Manzoor is a distinguished academic, linguist, and Professor in the Department of Bengali at the University of Dhaka. In this session of the ‘প্রমিত স্টাইল গাইড বক্তৃতা-১’ seminar, focused on the theme “Excellence in Bengali Typeface Design Towards Industry Best Practice,” he shared his profound academic insights on Bengali orthography, linguistic computing, and the systemic challenges of standardizing typographic layouts. He emphasized how technical font development must align with formal linguistic frameworks, standardization criteria, and pedagogical requirements to truly serve digital Bengali communication. Holding a PhD specializing in Bengali spelling (orthography), Dr. Manzoor’s core research areas center around linguistics and language education, with over 30 research papers published in acclaimed national and international journals. He is deeply involved with the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) of Bangladesh, where he has formulated national Bengali curricula and authored and edited national textbooks across various tiers. A prolific writer, his publications include Byabaharik Byakaran, Rabindranath: Prothom Dosh Bochor, and over 50 children’s books published by global and national organizations like Room to Read, Save the Children, and Sisimpur.
