California Zephyr Scenic Highlights: Reno to Richmond on Amtrak

You made it to the final leg of our epic train ride! This is Part 3 of our cross-country journey on the Amtrak California Zephyr. Ok—confession time! I didn’t actually take the train all the way to the official end of the line. My fantastic conductor gave me an amazing tip: depart the train at the Richmond station instead of Emeryville if you don't have a connecting Amtrak bus to San Francisco. They were right! It was incredibly easy to transfer to the BART. I just took an elevator from the Richmond train platform downstairs, walked over to the escalator, and went straight up to the BART station for a super quick, hassle-free ride into downtown San Francisco. This final section of the rail journey was absolutely spectacular. Picking right up from Reno, Nevada, we follow the stunning Truckee River and climb through the Sierra Nevada mountains. Plus, we get a fantastic onboard history lesson from the Amtrak staff covering the Donner Party, Donner Lake, and the rich history behind the capital of California!
