Padova 1963 - I festeggiamenti di giugno in onore di Sant'Antonio - filmato storico

Short excerpt from "The June Celebrations" The complete historical documentary is available for FREE here: https://tecatv.com/i-festeggiamenti-d... The June Celebrations. For centuries, Padua's ancient city has been dominated by the sight of its soaring domes and fantastic towers, and very little has changed. Visitors still arrive today from faraway places, moved by the same fervor as the pious pilgrims of old. Padua station with trains departing and arriving. Regular buses and coaches. The attraction is a religious and commercial event that recurs every year: the June Fair. Saint Anthony died in June, and not long afterward, the people of Padua wanted to honor his ever-living memory with a festival that drew the faithful from the most distant districts to the tomb of the Saint, enclosed and venerated in the majestic Basilica. Thus began the June celebrations. The evolution of customs and traditions, immediately after the First World War, necessitated the separation of the commercial event from the tender outburst of profound and genuine religious sentiment that is renewed every year. Since 1919, the National Trade Fair has been held in the purpose-built complex, where many initiatives enliven the June festivities. Inaugurated towards the end of May, the Fiera dei Campioni has seen its fame grow, receiving a significant boost from ever-increasing participation. Sporting events, cycling races, and the magnificent football matches at the Appiani stadium, always packed with fans, take place. The Prato della Valle, with its 85,000 square meters, is now home to the great Fiera del Santo (Saint's Fair) with its magnificent amusement park. Source: 16mm film, sound, color.
