King without a Crown - Constantine of Greece- A look at the history of the Greek royal family. King without a Crown – Constantine of Greece (2016) Director: Julia Melchior Genre: Documentary, History, Biography Language: English Release Date: January 31, 2016 Synopsis: Today, there are no statues, streets, or monuments that commemorate the time when Greece was a kingdom. However, when royal family members gather at European royal events and the Greek royal family walks down the red carpet, Constantine, known to the Greeks as "Mr. Glücksburg," still retains the aura of an ancient monarch. On September 18, 1964, when King Constantine II of Greece escorts Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark down the aisle, all of Athens takes to the streets. It seems like a glorious moment for the monarchy. The young king, an Olympic sailing champion, is the favorite of the Greek people. His young bride is the most beautiful princess in Europe at that time. Just months earlier, Constantine had succeeded his father, who had passed away prematurely, at the age of 23. "I want to be the king of all Greeks, regardless of their political tendencies. My power is the love of the people," he declared upon his succession. However, Constantine could only hold the throne of Greece for three years. He quickly became embroiled in disputes with political leaders. His lack of experience proved fatal, plunging the country into a constitutional crisis. After a military coup in 1967, the royal family fled the country, and the monarchy was abolished. For over forty years, Constantine and his family lived in exile in England. Recently, they have returned to Greece. Constantine has no ambitions to reclaim the throne or participate in politics. He only wishes to spend the remainder of his life in his homeland. However, he remains concerned about the future of Greece. "King Without a Crown" tells the story of the Greek royal family. Through interviews with the former king Constantine, his family, and various historians, the most significant events of the 20th century and their consequences for the country and the family are examined. The documentary, with rich images from both the past and present, shows how a king without a crown and his family live. ···················································································· SUPPORT US! ✘ Membership - https://bit.ly/3Opkhyw #documentary #royalfamily #royalty ···················································································· COPYRIGHT: All of the films published by us are legally licensed.
