Decades of Waiting Come to an End - restoration by Ian Summers

‘I was visited in the Cranks & Tinkerers Museum in St Mary’s, Tasmania by Colin and Linda McLeod last year. We talked of their model ship back in Brisbane; made by his father many years ago, and in a damaged state. We agreed that I would say yes or no on the basis of photographs as to its restoration, and it subsequently came from Brisbane beautifully protected. From July to March the rebuild was carried out; very few new parts were needed, which helped to preserve the age of the ship without it looking ‘fixed up’. At the end of February 2026 a travelling box was made to get her home, and a door to door courier engaged to carry it. It arrived safely, and I experienced great happiness that it was home and well- received. It has been a great privilege to be a part of this vessel’s history, and I am grateful for both that and the kindness and generosity shown to me by Col and Linda!’ Ian Summers, restorer and curator St Marys Cranks and Tinkerers Museum, Tasmania, Australia Photos: Ian Summers Video: Rita Summers (c) 2026 - all rights reserved
