In designing their gardens, they see the prospect of a different life than the one offered by the city. Even though Brittany is often subject to harsh winds and one feels as if one is living at the "end of the world," the landscape and the various opportunities for a life close to nature invite you to linger. The dream of an alternative life has become reality for many people here. Annick Bertrand and Yves Gillen have settled in the middle of a large marshland in southern Brittany and are living their dream of independence. Laurence and Charles Blasco have found their paradise in northern Brittany. On the Île de Bréhat, the "Flower Island," they have turned their passion into a profession and give others tips on garden design. In the green heart of Brittany, Guy le Breton occasionally swaps his pruning shears and spade for brushes and oil paints. The garden serves as a model for his paintings. And his painting, in turn, inspires him for his garden. Christian Le Roux and his wife Nicole harvest the fruits of country life and make jam from them. They grew up in the countryside and would never leave. Often, it doesn't take much to be content with what surrounds you. Annick Bertrand dreamed of this life. This also includes completely new ideas: "I have a dream: to have an even smaller house, 20 square meters, without any objects, a monk's cell, a bed, two chairs, a table. And books, of course.
