Monday night basketball sets the stage for a big non-conference showdown as the Seneca East Tigers hit the road to take on the Monroeville Eagles. Seneca East enters at 14-4 overall and 9-3 in league play, continuing another strong season under third-year head coach Anthony Langhurst. The Tigers are coming off a hard-nosed 49-37 win at Upper and have built their success around defense, allowing just 46 points per game. Senior guard Luke Mason leads the way, averaging 17.4 points, 7.1 assists, and 3.2 steals per night, and recently became just the fifth player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark. Monroeville counters with an 11-5 record, riding a four-game winning streak and currently tied atop the Firelands Conference. Coach Bob Fries’ Eagles are playing with confidence after a 59-46 road win at Western Reserve, where senior wing Derek Ackerman poured in 20 points. Ackerman’s ability to stretch the floor from deep or attack off the dribble makes him a matchup problem, and Monroeville’s balanced offense averages 61 points per game.
