Swakop River flowing into the ocean at Swakopmund
For the first time in 10 years the Swakop River has managed to break through to the ocean. Hundreds of people have come to see the spectacle! The Swakop is a river in the desert, the Namib desert. Due to sand mining, some people were dubious that the river would ever reach the ocean again. Namibia's rivers do not flow regularly, and the last time this river was flowing this strongly was in 2011. Luckily for everyone, the predictions were wrong and it was good to see the river flowing again! The rains across Namibia have been swelling the rivers all over Namibia. The river's muddy color is also where it gets it's name from. Swakaub is a word that means "diarrhea" in a local language, and the river looks remarkably like that when it does flow. #madewithkdenlive #awesomechapters #awesomenature
