Deer herd management and Earn-a-Buck limiting deer impacts on forest regeneration

Too many deer can result in failure of forest regeneration efforts, and can have other negative impacts on forest processes and human use of the forest and landscape. Management of overabundant white-tailed deer populations continues to challenge resource managers and landowners in forested and suburban landscapes. In this webinar Dr. Jay Boulanger will describe the application of Cornell's well-established Earn-a-Buck deer hunting programs and silvicultural practices used to promote forest regeneration in areas of high deer density. Cornell's model may be applicable to northeastern landowners looking to increase regeneration in their forests. Jay has worked with the deer and hunter management program associated with Cornell's Ithaca campus, and has familiarity with the rural lands management as well. July 2011.
