Our road trip to Curitiba continues through southern Brazil. In this second episode, we leave Barra Velha on the northern coast of Santa Catarina and continue driving along Brazil’s BR-101 highway toward Joinville, one of the largest and most important cities in southern Brazil. Along the route, we pass through Araquari, cross the BR-101 toll plaza and experience the intense traffic flow of trucks, cars and logistics connections that help move one of the fastest-growing regions in Santa Catarina state. During the drive, we also explore more about Barra Velha, including the city’s history, the origin of its name, its lagoon and the importance of tourism to the local economy. In Araquari, we discover the contrast between the city’s rural roots — known as Santa Catarina’s passion fruit capital — and its rapid industrial and logistics growth fueled by the BR-101 corridor and the proximity to Joinville.
