"I was faced with a fact: either war or prison," says one of the soldiers convicted of deserting his unit. After his sentence, he put on his uniform again, underwent basic combined-arms training, and is preparing to return to the front. Why do soldiers go to the SZCH? Fatigue after years without rotations, injuries, conflicts with commanders, fear, exhaustion, or despair — everyone has their own story. Someone says they couldn’t stand the "meat grinder," someone was sent back into battle after being wounded without treatment, and someone is convinced that there was simply no other way to change units. We visited one of the BZVP, where soldiers who returned to the army after the SZCH and conviction are currently undergoing training. Here they learn to work with weapons again, undergo tactical and medical training, and prepare to be on the front line again within the Shkval battalion. Alongside them, people convicted of civil crimes who also decided to go to serve are also training. Why, despite what they have experienced, do they still want to return to the front?
