Day 31: Camino Frances, Palas de Rei to Arzúa, 28 km

A magical Camino day! So many highlights! Karina and I battled the 34 degree heat and walked until 6pm 😆 due to our general laissez-faire/savouring the journey attitude. We spent time getting to know Björn and his father Hank from Munich. Hank had a stroke a few years earlier and Björn’s mission was to complete the last 100 km of the Camino with him. Their story could not be more inspiring... Karina helped push the wheelchair for several kms while I happily chittered away in German to the outgoing Björn. They serendipitously led us to the alleged “most famous octopus” in all of Melide, where the four of enjoyed a leisurely lunch together. This is the spirit of the Camino. Strangers coming together, sharing ideas and stories and lifting each other up. The surprises didn’t end there. Nearing the end of this blistering hot day I was basically crawling up that last hill towards our end destination. This lovely woman comes up to me and recognizes me from these Vlogs I’ve been doing. Tara: your energy and joy made my day!!! That butterfly scarf has been my signature since I picked it up for 1 euro in Burgos... it was the scarf that tipped her off. We checked into the loveliest of hostels where 15 euros each got us our own charming room.
