SELFRIDGE MILITARY AIR MUSEUM _127TH TACTICAL FIGHTER WING_A-7 CORSAIR II_SELFRIDGE ANGB- 1988
The Michigan Air National Guard's 127th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing moved its entire operation from Detroit Metropolitan Airport near Romulus to Selfridge AFB in December, 1970. On 1 July 1971, Selfridge Air Force Base was transferred to the Michigan Air National Guard, becoming the first major active Air Force base to come under control of the Air National Guard. In 1979, A-7 Corsair II fighters manufactured by LTV, were transferred from the USAF to the National Guard Bureau for subsequent re-allocation and by 1981, fifteen ANG squadrons were equipped with the A-7D Corsair II including the 107th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, MI and the 127th Tactical Fighter Wing. By April of 1990, the A-7's of the 127th TFW were being retired from active service following a decade of exemplary performance at Selfridge ANGB as the 107th Fighter Squadron's conversion to the F-16 Fighting Falcon was nearly complete. This footage was discovered in one of our storage warehouses in 2013. From 3/4" videotape, captured by a Michigan Air National Guard videographer. The condition of the footage and image quality are very, very good for having been recorded back in September of 1988. The footage has been digitized as you can see and is now a part of our vast digital media archive.
