October 2022 has been a particularly heated month in Bosnia and Herzegovina for several reasons. For starters, there were elections in the country at the beginning of October, and they are never simple there, as Bosnia has one of the most complex electoral systems in the world. Furthermore, all eyes were on the country in case the nationalist leaders won again, which could reignite an attempt at secession, something that already happened in December 2021. And, precisely, the nationalist leader who sparked this, Milorad Dodik, was one of the winners, and before the elections, he said that he had not abandoned his secession plan, but had delayed it due to the war in Ukraine. Now, another issue that has brought Bosnia and Herzegovina to the headlines has been the European Commission's announcement that it would recommend the country for official candidate status for European Union membership, something Bosnia has been officially awaiting since 2016. This is interesting, to say the least, considering that Russia has influence in part of Bosnia, specifically the part that would like to secede and unite with Serbia. And with all this, I think it's time to make a video about Bosnia and Herzegovina to answer several questions: What happened in Bosnia's October elections? What kind of influence does Russia have there, and why? And, most importantly, who is Milorad Dodik, and why does he want to divide the country into two parts?
