Galáxias Jellyfishes: O que são e como se formam?

The seminar in the "Astronomy at Noon" program, titled "Jellyfish Galaxies: What are they and how do they form?", will be presented by Richards Pereira Albuquerque, a postgraduate student at IAG/USP. Abstract: Jellyfish galaxies are so named because of their resemblance to marine jellyfish. These galaxies have tails that arise due to interaction with the intra-cluster medium, dense environments where their gas can be removed by drag pressure. Their tails are one of the rare places where star formation occurs outside the body of the galaxy. Observed in different environments, these galaxies are fundamental to understanding the evolutionary processes of galaxies and the Universe. – The "Astronomy at Noon" program aims to provide lectures in accessible language, geared towards undergraduate students. Presentations are always held on Thursdays at 12:00 PM in the Prof. Dr. Paulo Benevides Soares Auditorium, Block G of IAG/USP. https://www.iag.usp.br/cultext/projet...
