13 Rue Madeleine is a 1947 American World War II spy film directed by Henry Hathaway and starring James Cagney, Annabella, Richard Conte and Frank Latimore. Allied volunteers are trained as spies in the leadup to the invasion of Europe, but one of them is a German double agent. Plot: Agent Bob Sharkey discovers that one of the trainees is actually a German double agent. Instead of arresting him, the intelligence team decides to feed the spy false information about the Allied invasion plans so that he will pass the misleading details to the Nazis. However, the mission becomes dangerous when the spy realizes he is suspected and begins sabotaging the operation. Sharkey eventually goes to occupied France himself to stop the traitor and complete the mission. The story builds to a tense climax at the Gestapo headquarters located at 13 Rue Madeleine, where Sharkey refuses to reveal Allied secrets even under torture, leading to a dramatic and tragic ending.
