David Whitfield sings "I Believe" David Whitfield was born in Hull, England, on 2 February 1925 and died on 16 January 1980 in Sydney, Australia. He died from a brain haemorrhage whilst he was on tour – he was only 54 years old. A statue in his memory was unveiled outside of the New Theatre in Hull on 31 August 2012, before the opening night of a show celebrating his life and music.
