Two Ways to Rebuild Ford Traction-Lok (OEM & $0 Refresh)
Think your Ford Traction-Lok is worn out because it only spins one tire? Before you buy a rebuild kit—or worse, a new differential—there are two proven ways to bring it back to life. In this video, I rebuild two Ford 8.8 Traction-Lok differentials. The first gets a complete OEM rebuild using the Ford Racing clutch kit, covering clutch and steel order, friction modifier, proper clutch pack stack height, and an easy trick for installing the S-spring. The second differential gets a zero-dollar refresh by reusing the original clutches and shimming the clutch pack to restore proper preload. Whether you’re rebuilding a Mustang, Crown Victoria, Explorer, F-150, Ranger, or any Ford equipped with a Traction-Lok differential, these techniques can help you get both tires working again without unnecessary expense.
