Timber Frame Transformation: 6 Days of Power Washing Finally Finished!

Checkout our full home build playlist to see the journey so far:    • DIY Timber Frame Home Build   After months of hard work, the power washing phase of our DIY timber frame home is officially DONE! What looks quick in a timelapse was actually 7 full days of soaking wet work spread across several months… carefully cleaning every inch, every beam, and every joint of our handcrafted timber frame. This process gave me a whole new appreciation for the incredible amount of work Jon and my brother put in two summers ago while cutting, shaping, and building each timber by hand for our future homestead. In today’s video, we’re bringing you along for the final 3 days of cleaning our timber frame house before moving into the next big steps: bug protection, mildew prevention, and eventually sealing the wood to preserve it for years to come. If you love watching real-life DIY home building, off-grid dreams, homestead family life, and the behind-the-scenes work that goes into building a timber frame home from scratch, you’re in the right place. If you're wondering why we didn't do all the cleaning and sealing sooner, we are too! But in all seriousness, we are learning as we go. We didn't have indoor storage available to us and we knew it was going to be a prolonged span of time that the timbers would be in the elements, so we opted to wait until they were dried in to clean them up for good. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching these massive rough-cut timbers transform as years of dirt, sawdust, weather, and grime wash away. The timelapse footage makes it look easy… but trust me, this was one of the messiest and most exhausting projects I’ve tackled yet. If you’ve ever dreamed of building your own home, starting a homestead, or taking on a long-term DIY project, this is what it really looks like. We’re documenting our journey building a timber frame home completely by hand, sharing the real process—the wins, the struggles, and everything in between. Jon is a retired Army veteran, and together we’re building more than just a house — we’re building a legacy for our four kids while homeschooling, learning homestead life and creating a slower, intentional life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.
